Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the upcoming 45th Australian Kendo Championships, Seminar and grading has been cancelled. Australian Kendo Renmei’s primary considerations are the health, safety and well-being of our members. 100% of the individual registration fees for 45th Australian Kendo Championships will be refunded. The refund will be processed within 2 weeks by the VKR. We apologise for any inconveniences that this decision has caused you however we have obligation to our members and broader society to make every attempt to contain the spread of the infection.

The next Australian Kendo Championships – the 45th Australian Kendo Championships in 2021, will be in Melbourne hosted by the VKR. 

 

The Victorian Kendo Renmei is proud to host the 45th Australian Kendo Championships in Melbourne, 2020. We invite you to Melbourne to attend this important event in the AKR calendar. Please find below information about the championships, seminar & grading for those who would like to make early travel and accommodation arrangements.

Registration information and a full Event Information Pack will be sent to all states in January. State registrations will be due by 9th February 2020.

Friday 10th April 2020:  Referees’ seminar
Saturday 11th April 2020:  45th AKC – Competition Day 1/ Welcome Dinner
Sunday 12th April 2020: 45th AKC – Competition Day 2
Monday 13th April 2020: Seminar
Tuesday 14th April 2020: Seminar and AKR Dan Grading Examination

Please note that the Seminar duration has been reduced and grading will now be held on the Tuesday afternoon.

Venue

The venue is the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), 30 Aughtie Drive, Albert Park.

MSAC is in Albert Park south of Melbourne’s central business district and is one of Melbourne’s premier sporting event venues. MSAC was the venue for the AKC in 2015 and 2010. The venue is a 12 minute drive from central Melbourne and is well served by public transport. Trams operate regularly to and from the venue and central Melbourne and Southern Cross Station.

Distance from central Melbourne:

  • • Tram: 25 min /~$7 per day (round trip)
  • • Car/Taxi/Uber: 12 min/ ~$15-20 (one way)

Distance from Melbourne Domestic Airport (Tullamarine):

  • • SkyBus + Tram: 50 min/~$27 (one way for bus and tram)
  • • Car/Taxi/Uber: 30-40 min/~$55-65 (one way)

There is limited accommodation in Albert Park, but nearby St Kilda, South Melbourne and Port Melbourne have a range of options.
